Wellington, FL- May 16, 2006 – Christy Russo and Westcliffe returned to the show arena this past week at the Kentucky Spring Horse Show, held May 10-14 at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington. Russo, who spent her winter successfully showing at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Florida, competed in the Large Junior 15 and Under Hunters.
Fifteen year old Russo piloted Westcliffe to a first place finish and also captured a second, third, and fourth in the division. Their performance locked in a reserve championship as well, adding another tricolor to Ashland Farm’s tack room display. Russo commutes from her home in Coral Gables, Florida, to train with Ken and Emily Smith in Wellington, Florida, and at shows.
“The show was very cold, but it turned out to be a lot of fun,” said Russo. “I only showed Henry [Westcliffe] because we’ve decided to sell Miracle and High Cotton. It was helpful for me to just show Henry because I spent a lot of time working with Miracle over the winter; just showing one helped me get used to riding him again. He was a very good boy, and it worked out well. The weather was rainy and, every time I went in the ring, the storm would make the tents flap around, and he was really good about it.”
Russo, who is currently shopping for a new Junior Hunter and a new equitation horse, will show next at the Kentucky Spring Classic Horse Show. She will then compete in Devon, PA, Saratoga, NY, and Lake Placid, NY.
