North Run Has Six in Class to Compete for the R.W. Mutch Trophy

WELLINGTON, FL – March 16, 2007 -- Missy Clark and John Brennan of North Run have an unprecidented six students competing in tomorrow's R.W. Mutch Equitation Classic, a competition that showcases the season’s top young riders. This year's class will be held in the Grand Hunter Ring at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Florida on Saturday, March 17, 2007.

This year’s R.W. Mutch Scholarship winner Kari Postel

(15) will undertake the most challenging tests in horsemanship, along with five of her fellow barnmates who all ride with Missy Clark and John Brennan of North Run, who have also qualified to compete in this prestigious equestrian event.

For the eighth year, the R. W. Mutch Educational Foundation has awarded a Scholarship to a young rider who exemplifies the qualities of lifelong horseman Ronnie Mutch, who won the AHSA Medal Finals in 1950 at the age of 15. At 18, Mutch was the youngest rider up until that time to compete on the US Equestrian Team.

Missy Clark and John Brennan have trained two of the recipients including this year’s winner and Zazou Hoffman (14) , who recently won the Zone 2 Regional Maclay finals and was invited to participant in a clinic to be given by US Show Jumping Team Captain George Morris.

The one-of-a-kind format for the R.W. Mutch Trophy class offers a unique challenge to the riders who are completely isolated from their trainers and support staff and must put their strategy in order and prepare on their own. The teens are responsible for the management and schooling of their mount and are required to walk the course on their own.

Communication between riders and trainers is not allowed. The competition format features two extremely challenging rounds plus the possibility of a third round work-off which becomes even more difficult, with the possibility of exchanging horses and answering oral questions.
