Sarah Ward of Atlanta, GA captures numerous awards at Pennsylvania National Horse Show

Harrisburg, PA – October 13, 2008 – Sarah Ward, who trains with Finally Farm in Camden, SC, made the most of her last year in the junior divisions by winning the Large Jr. Hunter Championship 16-17, the High Point Large Jr. Hunter Championship and the Grand Jr. Hunter Championship at the 63rd annual Pennsylvania National Horse Show in Harrisburg, Penn. this past weekend. The 18 year old’s victories on her gelding Onassis assured her Finaly Farm trainers – leading hunter rider Elizabeth Towell-Boyd and father Jack Towell - the PNHS’s 2008 Junior Hunter Trainer Award.

This win made JackTowell the only trainer to receive this prestigious award four times in the horse show’s 63 year history. The Atlanta, GA teen also ended up in 4th place for Best Child Rider for points accummulated during the junior competitions that ran October 9th to 12th. But her year as a junior is not yet over…

“This is something I have deamed of winning,” beamed Ms. Ward, who after January 1 will age out of the junior classes. “My horse Onassis was absolutely perfect! He wanted to win as badly as I did. When we walked into the ring, all I had to do was point him at the jumps and it all just went beautifully. He is an outstanding horse. I could not have asked for a better way to finish up my junior career,” beamed the teen with a dazzling smile. “ This is one show that I will never forget.”

Ward, who has been with training with the Towelll family at Finally Farm for just over two years, credits her trainers and parents – and the wonderful horses they have found for her - for her success in the show ring. Jack Towell, who teamed Sarah with Onassis and her other mounts that now include an equitation horse and a jumper, was extremely pleased with Ward’s victories. “I have to say that this is really very special,” grinned the veteran trainer. “I have been lucky to have won this award with my own children, daugther Liza and my youngest son Jack Hardin Jr. in the irons, three times in before. But it is really nice to receive such an honor thanks to the efforts of my junior clients. Sarah and her parent’s Bob and Diane Ward came to Finally Farm knowing that we excelled in the hunter world. Her growth as a rider and a horseman make us all proud! We’re sure that Sarah’s skills will continue to grow and we have no doubt that she will continue to succeed in her riding career, and every other aspect of her life, for that matter.”

The Pennsylvania National Horse Show will continue through Ocober 18th with Olympian veterans such as Mcclain Ward, World Cup winners including Hillary Dobbs and other world renowned professionals, top amateurs and seasoned competitors showing in a variety of disciplines including hunters and jumpers. The next horse show for Sara Ward and her mounts during her last months of showing in the junior divisions will be at the 50th annual Washington International Horse Show October 21 to 26, 2008 at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. Once again the young equestrian will enter the arena and ride for top ribbons.

The Washington International Horse Show will also bring top horses and riders from the U.S. and abroad, including Olympic champions and top show jumpers, to the nation's capital to compete for more than $400,000 in prize money and championship titles. About 500 horses and riders are invited to participate in competitions for jumpers, hunters, equitation and dressage events during the six-day show. The Verizon Center is at 601 F Street, NW (7th and F Streets, NW), Washington, D.C., home of the Washington International Horse Show since 2000.

Sarah Ward will be joined by her parents, the Towell family and a slew of up and coming young riders from Finally Farm who have qualified, and been invited, to participate for top honors.
