Bigger is better! Saugerties Block Party features World's Largest Skateboard this Saturday

SAUGERTIES, NEW YORK (June 10, 2008)--When the block party HITS the streets of Saugerties on Saturday, June 14, it will feature a special Guinness Book of World Record's test at 6:30 pm for the World's Largest Skateboard in front of Dallas Hot Weiner's on Main Street.

The board measures more than 33 feet long and was constructed by John Kahn, Ken Benson and members of the Saugerties Skatepark Junior Committee.The task took nearly five months to complete and is aimed at raising awareness for the world-class skatepark that is coming to Saugerties in the spring of 2009. "We are breaking ground for the skatepark earlier that day and to cap off the evening we are going to bring the board to the block party for the test," said Kahn. "The new skatepark is going to be a great thing for Saugerties and since it's going to be right across the street from the HITS show grounds on Washington Avenue extension we figured the block party would be a great way to begin a great relationship with HITS."

Those attending the block party will also get the opportunity to meet some of the top Grand Prix riders who will be competing this week at HITS Saugerties up-close-and-personal during a special autograph session at Mirabella's Restaurant on Partition Street starting at 6 pm.

Among the riders expected to appear are Hillary Dobbs, who is the daughter of CNN Anchor Lou Dobbs, and former Olympians Todd Minikus, Margie Engle and Federico Sztyrle just to name a few.

The block party will also feature a musical performance by the band Powerhouse, sponsored in part by Mid-Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union, Naccarato Insurance and Win Morrison Realty from 7 pm to 9 pm at the intersection of Main and Partition Street.

Children are also encouraged to visit Stella's Station for free pony rides courtesy of Sharon Bach and Vertical Limit Stables from 6 pm to 7 pm. Another popular attraction will be at the Speedy Mart on Main Street. The New York State Lottery will be on site with buy one get one free lottery tickets.

Most businesses will bring the party into their stores. Participating businesses include M&T Bank (crafts from the Saugerties Art Lab), Arcadia (light snacks and cocktails), Central Hotel (light snacks and cocktails), DIG (DJ Caviar spinning live in the store), Dutch Ale House (musical performance at 9 pm), Exchange Hotel (free pizza), Michael Nelson Photography (student photography opening), Partition St.Wine Shop (wine tasting), The Pig Bar & Grill (musical performance), Shelley K (art opening and light snacks and jazz piano with John Esposito), Stella's Station (musical performance), Sweet Lili (chocolate fountain), Trillium (wine tasting) Village Pizza (fried dough) and Main Street Restaurant (balloon animals).

The HITS Saugerties block party takes place from 6 pm to 10 pm and parking is available in all of the municipal lots in the village, including the lot adjacent to M&T Bank and behind Mirabella's. In addition, the parking lot at Cahill School may also be used, as well as the parking lot of Sawyer Savings Bank.
