SBS Farms' Jennifer Alfano and Rock Star Win Championship at Lake Placid Horse Show

Lake Placid, NY - July 1, 2009 - Jennifer Alfano, the rider and trainer for SBS Farms in Buffalo, NY, had a good week at the Lake Placid Horse Show. She and Rock Star, owned by Bright Star 158 LLC, were champions in the Regular Working Hunters. Alfano also rode five other horses to top ribbons in the professional hunter divisions.

Alfano and Rock Star won two over fences classes and won another second place ribbon. They were fourth under saddle and fifth in the handy hunter class to capture the championship. Rock Star had not shown since the Devon Horse Show in May.

"He was ready to show again," Alfano said. Alfano noted that all of her horses were very good, and it shows that their competition program is working well. "We're being selective with Rock Star's shows this year, and to some extent we're selective with all of the horses. We don't tend to show them all that much," she pointed out.

Also competing in the Regular Working Hunters was Jersey Boy, owned by SBS Farms. They placed first, second, and third in the division.

Alfano won the reserve championship in the Second Year Green Working Hunters with The Specialist, owned by Meredith Lipke Bartolone. They placed first, third, third, fifth, and sixth in their classes.

In the First Year Green Working Hunters, Alfano did well with two horses. Extraordinary, owned by Helen Lenahan, won a class, while Kid Rock, another Bright Star 158-owned entry, received two thirds.

Alfano also won in the Green Conformation Hunters with South Beach, owned by Bright Star 158. They picked up two more third place ribbons in the division and were fourth in the handy hunter class.

Alfano has had a solid summer of winning so far, and she feels very prepared to compete in the 2009 USHJA International Hunter Derby Finals in Kentucky on August 21-22. She has three horses qualified in the top 12 already.

Jersey Boy has been unstoppable this year and is leading the standings (which are based on prize money won) with $25,790 in prize money. He is more than $7,000 ahead of the second place competitor, barnmate Rock Star. Rock Star has $18,500 in prize money won and is tied for second place. Sting, owned by Helen Lenahan, is in 11th place with $9,760.

"The derby finals are a big goal for us," Alfano noted. "All three of my top horses competed at Kentucky Spring in their normal divisions, and I think it will be really cool to show in the new outdoor stadium for the finals. It will be a ring that none of the horses have really been in too. I'm really excited to show there."

Before the derby finals, Alfano will travel to Ohio. SBS Farms will compete next at the Chagrin Valley Hunter Jumper Classic Horse Show on July 8-12. For more information, please visit http://www.thebtrc.org.
