SBS Farms' Jersey Boy and Jennifer Alfano Surpass 60 Competitors for Win

Ocala, FL - March 9, 2009 - For the second year in a row, Jennifer Alfano of SBS Farms took home the win in the $10,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby at the HITS Ocala Winter Circuit. This year, it was Jersey Boy, owned by SBS Farms, who was unbeatable in the class of 60 competitors. Alfano is the rider and trainer at SBS Farms in Buffalo, NY, with trainer Susie Schoellkopf.

Alfano and Jersey Boy won both rounds of the derby with scores in the 90s, which gave them the win in each round. Alfano noted, "He was given scores of 94 and 95 in the first round. After the second round with the bonus points, he had over 200 points. Those were some of the highest scores I've gotten."

Alfano described of the event, "HITS did a really nice job, and the course rode really well. The handy course definitely had some options, and we had to open a gate. It was really fun under the lights."

Jersey Boy is an accomplished competitor in the derby classes, and this win will cement his place in the derby finals, which will be held this summer. "Jersey Boy was unbelievable this weekend," Alfano commented. "He was really on and just jumped so well."

Along with his win in the derby, Jersey Boy was reserve champion in the Regular Working Hunters with two wins and two seconds in the division.

Alfano was again one of the most decorated riders of the week. In addition to Jersey Boy's successes, she rode three horses to championship ribbons.

On Extraordinary, owned by Helen Lenahan, Alfano was champion in the First Year Green Hunters. They won two over fences classes and were second in the handy hunter class.

South Beach, owned by Bright Star 158 LLC, was champion in the Cismont Manor Green Conformation Hunters for the second week in a row. The talented bay gelding was fourth in the model, placed second, third, and third over fences, and won the handy hunter and under saddle classes. In the same division, Alfano also rode Helen Lenahan's Sting to first, second, and third places.

Meredith Lipke Bartolone's The Specialist conquered the Second Year Green Hunter division. They placed first, second, and third over fences, won the handy hunter class, and took the blue ribbon in the under saddle.

Madison Brayman and Trueman, owned by the Buffalo Therapeutic Riding Center, were first and second over fences and fifth under saddle in the Equitation 12-13 division. They also placed fourth and fifth in the High Children's Jumpers.
