SBS Farms' Jennifer Alfano and Rock Star Place Third in $50,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby

Wellington, FL - March 24, 2008 - On Thursday and Friday, March 20-21, Jennifer Alfano of Buffalo, NY, piloted Rock Star, owned by Bright Star 158 LLC to third place in the highly competitive $50,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby. The two round class hosted almost 60 of the country's best hunters and hunter riders. Alfano was fresh off her win in the $10,000 USHJA International Hunter Classic in Ocala, FL, the previous week.

Alfano competed with Rock Star and Jersey Boy, who is owned by SBS Farms. The first round was held on Thursday in the Grand Hunter Ring. Rock Star placed fifth and Jersey Boy was in the top 26. The top 26 horses based on scores were then called back for the second round, which was held under the lights on Friday night in the impressive International Arena.

The courses were designed by Richard Jeffrey and featured obstacles like large boulders under jumps, a large bank, and options that went up to four feet in height. Alfano did the same course on both horses and chose the taller option jumps when available. "I was really nervous myself about the bank, but both horses acted like they'd done it a million times," Alfano commented. "To ship in and show in two rings they'd never been in before and jump the bank and boulders was great for my horses. As usual, they were unfazed by anything."

"The event was great," she went on to say. "The courses were very nice, the ring was beautiful, and it really was a lot of fun." Jersey Boy finished 11th in round two of the class.

In the second round, Rock Star and Alfano received outstanding scores from the judges for a total of 368 for an overall score of 719. They placed third overall in the huge prize money event and cemented their reputation as one of the best hunter combinations in the country.

Alfano and SBS Farms, along with head trainer Susie Schoellkopf, will compete next at the Tournament of Champions week at the Tampa Equestrian Festival on April 1-5. Alfano and Rock Star will also compete at the highlight class for hunters at the Tampa Equestrian Festival, the $20,000 ASG Software Solutions USHJA International Hunter Derby. The class will be held on Sunday, April 6, at 1 p.m. at Wrenwood Farm in Naples, FL.
