WELLINGTON, Fla., Jan. 30-- It was a sunny Florida day Wednesday for the Second Year Green Hunters in the Grand Hunter ring at the CN Winter Equestrian Festival presented by Zimmerman Advertising at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center.
Havens Schatt, of Ocala, Fla. and Lavari, a 12-year-old bay Holsteiner gelding owned by Tracy Scheriff, of Ramsey, N.J. made a nice impression over the 3ft. 9in. course as well as on the flat. Havens and Lavari placed second in the first trip with a score of 82, placed first in the second trip with a high score of 88, and took home the blue ribbon on the flat.
"He is a really great horse, he always tries very hard," Havens said. "If he ever makes a mistake, it is because he tries too hard,"
This is Lavari's first year in the Second Year Green Hunter division. He did First Year Green Hunters in 2006 and had a year off. He was Circuit Champion with Tracy Scheriff in the amateurs.
Tim Goguen, of Wellington, riding the eight-year-old chestnut gelding, Allejandro, owned by Katie Dinan,LLC from New York posted the high score of 87 for the first trip over fences, finishing with the blue ribbon.
"He is a great Second Year Green Hunter and Junior Hunter," he said. "We just bought him after Devon and he won Circuit Champion last year with Katie after only showing four times."
The Second Year Green Hunters will finish their division Thursday.
