Equestrian News Release
Hosted by SmartPak Equine
PLYMOUTH, Mass. – (Feb. 28, 2006) Encouraged by the success of their first course walk in 2005, SmartPak Equine is pleased to announce its plans for a second annual Rolex Course Walk with Olympians Kim Severson and Amy Tryon for 2006. Severson and Tryon will take attendees on a guided tour through the perils of the most challenging cross country course in the United States. This special event is free of charge and all are welcome to attend.
“We are thrilled to be able to offer spectators another course walk with these top athletes. The Rolex CCI**** is such a unique competition attracting competitors and spectators from around the world,” said Jaralyn Gibson Finn, SmartPak’s vice president of new business development. “The opportunity to gain the perspectives of these accomplished riders is very exciting.”
This year’s Rolex CCI**** will be especially interesting as it will be the first time all advanced riders will compete in the short format. Severson and Tryon will be addressing their strategies in riding each cross country obstacle from start box to finish and attendees will be able to ask questions of these two leading competitors.
Severson is a 2004 Individual Olympic Silver Medalist as well as a Team Olympic Bronze Medalist. She is a four time winner of the Rolex CCI**** and has been named the United States Eventing Association Leading Lady Rider three times. Her famous partner of previous years, Winsome Adante, has been named USEA’s Horse of the Year three times, making him the second highest scoring horse in the history of U.S. Eventing.
Tryon’s highlights include a tenth place finish at last year’s Rolex CCI**** event with Poggio II and a fourth place finish with My Beau in 2004. She joins Severson as a 2004 Team Olympic Bronze Medalist and a Team Gold Medalist at the 2002 World Equestrian Games. In addition, the Chronicle of the Horse named her their Horseman of the Year in 2004.
Interested parties are encouraged to pre-register for the Rolex Course Walk by emailing Nina Akerley at nakerley@SmartPakEquine.com with a subject line of “Rolex Course Walk Sign-Up” or online at the SmartPak Web site. On Thursday, April 27th attendees should stop by the SmartPak tent to check-in or sign-up and receive their complimentary gift package (limited amounts available based on a first come basis). The start time of the course walk will depend on Severson and Tryon’s ride times and will be announced via email to those that pre-register with SmartPak. In addition, Severson and Tryon will be signing autographs throughout the four-day championship at the SmartPak Equine booth.
