Sound Horse Conference Approved for 9.75 Continuing Education Credit Hours

Friends of Sound Horses (FOSH) is pleased to announce that the Ohio Veterinary Medical Licensing Board has approved the Sound Horse Conference for 9.75 hours of continuing education (CE) credit. The conference is being held April 11 and 12, 2008 in Columbus, Ohio at Ohio State University. Soring is a cruel and illegal practice used on gaited horses to create a winning gait for the show ring. The purpose of the conference is to bring together a wide complement of experts, research and resources to address alternatives and solutions so that gaited horses are not sored in the future.

The conference will focus on challenges to compliance with federal law, methods being used for soring, technology available to help inspectors detect soring, proposed equine research that would assist the cause and how cultural and societal changes could be effective. The United States Department of Agriculture will attend and speak as well as numerous practicing and research veterinarians, renowned farriers and university faculty from across the United States.

Photos and video footage will highlight the comparisons between the performance horse's gaits and the movement of flat-shod and barefoot Tennessee Walking Horses, including a moving video compilation highlighting sound Tennessee Walking horses performing in a variety of disciplines.

The conference is being sponsored by the Association of American Equine Practitioners, American Horse Protection Association, Friends of Sound Horses, Humane Society of the United States, Ohio State University School of Veterinary Science and Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders and Exhibitors Association.

All gaited horse owners and enthusiasts are encouraged to attend to learn the latest developments and ideas for recognizing and preventing soring within their own gaited horse breeds. More information, including an agenda and registration form is available by calling 800-651-7993 or visiting http://www.fosh.info.

FOSH is a national leader in the promotion of natural, sound gaited horses and in the fight against abuse and soring of Tennessee Walking Horses. For more information about FOSH, or to become a member, please visit http://www.fosh.info or call 800-651-7993.
