Stallion Ticker Hosts Online Auction to Benefit Old Friends

GEORGETOWN, KY—DECEMBER 2, 2008— The bloodstock auction site The Stallion Ticker (http://www.stallionticker.com) has teamed up with Old Friends, the Thoroughbred Retirement Facility in Georgetown, KY, to host a benefit auction to celebrate the retirement of Lava Man, the great California champion who will arrive at Old Friends in March 2009

The auction, currently underway, includes shares in breeding seasons to several well-known New York and Florida stallions (including stakes winner Lido Palace), sought-after collectibles (halters worn by Afleet Alex, Holy Bull, and others), and valuable gift items (racing coolers, signed prints, etc.). Also on the block are shares in the Old Friends stallions, including Creator, Awad, and Bull inthe Heather, More items are scheduled to be posted soon.

The auction was designed and coordinated by Stallion Ticker’s Ryan Campbell. “I have worked with several retirement facilities in Indiana [where I’m based],” said Campbell, “but one day my daughter and I showed up unannounced at Old Friends and we were sold. This is just such a wonderful organization that’s just getting more horses all the time, and more horses mean more cost. And when I heard Lava Man was coming, well, I felt I just had to help.”

Old Friends founder and President Michael Blowen announced the retirement of West Coast legend Lava Man to the facility in September. The 7-year-old gelding is now scheduled to arrive in the Bluegrass in March.

“We can’t thank Ryan enough for all he’s doing,” said Blowen. “His knowledge and dedication are invaluable to us.”

The online event will conclude December 12, 2008 to insure shipping for the holiday season.
