World's Largest Standardbred Horse Sale to be Held at Farm Show Complex

More than 2,320 Horses to Be Sold through Saturday
HARRISBURG, Pa., Nov.1 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center will host the world's largest standardbred horse sale Nov. 5 - 10.
The slots-enhanced Breeders Fund and PA Sire Stakes have increased the level of interest of those who buy Pennsylvania-bred horses. More than half of the horses consigned to the sale are Pennsylvania-bred or Pennsylvania-sired.
The sale will begin daily at 10 a.m. Some 400 horses are expected to be sold each day.
"Pennsylvania is a great state for breeding, buying, selling and racing some of the best horses in the world," said Agriculture Secretary Dennis Wolff.
"Past sales have been record-setting and this year is expected to be no different. Each year, the show attracts a growing number of visitors from abroad who want to learn about Pennsylvania's excellent equine industry."
To attract additional international buyers, the Department of Agriculture and the Standardbred Breeders Association of Pennsylvania are providing an incentive package to first-time international buyers. To qualify, buyers must purchase an eligible Pennsylvania-bred yearling. The sale has attracted buyers from Scandinavia, France, Italy, Russia, Australia and New Zealand.
Former Olympic and professional boxing champion George Foreman purchased yearling horses at the sale last year. Foreman and Demorrio Williams, a linebacker with the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League, are expected to be buyers at this year's sale.
Standardbreds, noted for their speed and stamina, are most frequently used in harness racing. Consignors from throughout the United States and Canada market yearlings and other Standardbreds during the sale. Complete pedigrees and sale results are available online at http://www.theblackbook.com.
