Super Ride VI: Top Drill Teams Gear Up for USEDC Ride of Champions

The United States Equestrian Drill Championship's inaugural “Ride of Champions” will be held on Friday evening, June 27, 2008, at the Texas Rose Horse Park, near Canton, Texas (USA).

The USEDC Ride of Champions will be a featured competition at Super Ride VI: The 2008 United States Equestrian Drill Championship, held at the horse park from June 24 through 28.

The Ride of Champions will showcase USEDC Open Division National Champions, Reserve Champions and Second Runners-up from previous Super Ride competitions in a highly anticipated ride-off.

Teams qualified for the 2008 Ride of Champions include: Latigo N Lace (Washington State), the Rebel Riders (Texas), the Easy Riders (Missouri), the Matagorda County Thundering Hooves (Texas), Stars N Steeds (Missouri), the Visalia Rockettes (California), the Cowgirl Express Rodeo Drill Team (Ohio), the Bellville Heritage Cowgirls (Texas), the Canadian Valley Rangerettes (Oklahoma) and the Ghostriders Precision Drill Team (Texas).

“The team is excited about a competition of the champions. The riders are working hard to perfect an innovative and creative drill that will thrill the judges, the audience and other teams. Riding with precision is what this team loves to do.”

The USEDC Ride of Champions will be contested under a special set of rules. Teams will not be allowed to carry flags, and no pyrotechnics or other special effects will be permitted. As a nationally sanctioned “high performance” event, a special emphasis will be placed upon the creativity and overall professionalism of the competing units. Good horsemanship, attention to detail, artistry, innovative musical interpretation and thoughtfulness of presentation will receive positive marks from a panel of nationally recognized judges.

“The Thundering Hooves are honored to be qualified for the Ride of Champions at the USEDC competition in June. They are looking forward to competing with the other champions and are most excited about the competition. A lot of hard work and practice are involved, as they know this will require their best performance yet. This being the fifth trip to the USEDC Canton competition, the Thundering Hooves look forward to renewing old friendships and making new ones.”

Based upon entries received through February 5, the United States Equestrian Drill Association (USEDA) has confirmed that that the 2008 Super Ride will host the most geographically diverse field of entrants seen to date.

“The perception in some circles that the Super Ride is a principally regional competition has been forever erased”, says Gary Bonner, Executive Director of the USEDA and coordinator of the Super Ride. “The drill community has fully embraced the change in venue and the expansion of the competition's format for 2008.”

“The fixing of the late June competition dates will accommodate those teams from the West Coast that have historically participated in the Western States Drill Team and Color Guard competitions at the Reno (NV) Rodeo, yet also wish to participate in the National Championship”, adds Kelly Jayroe, a drill coach and USEDA Board Member.

“Super Ride VI will be a National Championship in all aspects, and will feature top level competitors from all regions of the United Sates - in a comfortable, conveniently accessible setting”, says Bonner. “We expect the competition to be truly first rate in all drill team and color guard divisions.”

“It is an honor and a thrill for the Bellville Heritage Cowgirls to be invited to compete against some of the nation's best drill teams.”
