Talon Winery to Host Inaugural “BBQ Cook-off and Concert” on June 26

LEXINGTON, KY—JUNE 4, 2009— The beautiful Talon Winery of Lexington, KY is set to kick-off summer with some stick-to-your-ribs fun.

Talon will host its premiere “Annual BBQ Cook-off and Concert” on Friday, June 26th, a cookin’, eatin’ wine-tastin’ Bluegrass-lovin’ event. The party begins at 6 p.m. and admission is $35.

Special musical guests will be the Pinecastle recording artists The Dixie Bee-Liners, recently named Bluegrass Artist of the Year by the Roots Music Association. The group is nationally known for its high-octane harmonies and stunningly beautiful original songs. Their latest album, Ripe, topped Bluegrass Now’s Fan’s Choice Top 20 chart twice last year.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Old Friends, the 501 (c) 3 non-profit Thoroughbred Retirement Facility in Georgetown, KY, that is home to more than 50 rescued and retired former racehorses, including many stakes-winning champions.

Both professional and amateur barbeque chefs are invited to enter the ultimate saucy challenge. But the gauntlet has already been thrown: Lexington’s DaRae and Friends, Bibs BBQ, and Jimmy D’s Café, along with Chubby Bubby’s of Louisville, Midway’s Good Ol’ Days BBQ Farm, and Georgetown’s Wholly Smokers are already confirmed for the event.

A $75 entry fee is required to enter (in either the rib and non-rib categories) and the winner takes all. The Grand Prize will be awarded to the contestant offering the best BBQ in Kentucky, as decided by our esteemed panel of judges: Private Chef Brent Boyd; Mason Miller of the law firm Miller & Wells; real estate agent Daren Bailey; and Louisville gourmet coffee expert, John Conti Coffee.

Guests will also have the opportunity to cast a vote for their favorite BBQ, and in addition to the Grand Prize, a “People’s Choice Award” will be presented.

Cook spots are still available (contact Talon Winery at 859-971-3214 for a registration form or see their website http://www.TalonWine.com)

Admission to the “BBQ Cook-off” includes samples of all of the BBQ fare, a glass of Talon’s most famous sangria, wine-tastings, and tours of the Talon facility, along with music, dancing, and some extra special fun for kids. Dessert vendors will also be on hand and additional BBQ plates and take-out will be sold. For reservations contact Talon Winery at (859) 971-3214.

The event is rain or shine (festivities will be moved into Talon’s newly renovated Barn facility in the case of inclement weather) and promises to bring people together for good food, good fun, and a good cause.
