Team Telluride Rides for Wins at Ledges Winter Series Horse Show

Roscoe, IL - February 4, 2009 - Telluride Farm had another winning weekend at the Ledges Winter Series Horse Show in Roscoe, IL. Diane Carney of Hampshire, IL, coached her students to top placings in the hunter and equitation divisions and added even more ribbons to Telluride's tack room curtain.

"We had another weekend that was right on target," enthused Carney. "It was a great competition, with strong showing. All of my students rode beautifully, and everyone had a lot of fun."

Caitie Hope of Barrington, IL, competed in the Large Junior 16-17 Hunter division aboard Cinch. She took home four blue ribbons and one second place, and the pair came away with the division championship. She also won first place in both junior hunter classics with impressive scores that ranged from 84 to 90.

Hope also competed in the equitation classes on her mount Carmachon, owned by Kathleen Hope. In the USEF Hunt Seat Medal, Hope executed a stellar round and earned the blue ribbon. She then mastered the WIHS Jumper Phase for the top prize and took second in the WIHS Hunter Phase, coming home with second place overall. She also pinned third in the USEF Show Jumping Talent Search.

"It's obviously great when we can go out there and win, but I think it's important to focus on our entire approach," said Carney. "We have a very methodic, strategic approach that focuses on horsemanship; I think that leads to consistency in the show ring and good results." She added, "Ever since Caitie took the George Morris clinic, she has really displayed a new maturity with her riding. She's upped her game to an entirely new level while maintaining her riding style, confidence, and comfort on course."

Fourteen-year-old Alex Carlins found success aboard Telluride Farm's That'll Do and Diabella, owned by Kathleen Hope. He competed in the Novice Children's Hunters, dominating the division to win the championship and reserve. Additionally, he rode consistently well in the Children's Hunter division and received the reserve tricolor.

"Alex has ridden for awhile, but he's new to showing," explained Carney. "He's catching on quickly and is definitely a quick study! He really enjoys the art of riding as well as the style and accuracy that's involved. He's very athletic, so all of these qualities make him really interesting to teach."

Lauren McGraw had an exciting show as well. She rode Cactus, owned by Telluride Farm, and was second in the Children's Hunters. "She's a nice young rider who competes in the 14 and Under division," said Carney. "She has great timing and is a really fun kid to teach. She is also a very talented musician and plays the violin."

The horses and riders at Telluride Farm will compete next at the HITS Ocala Winter Series in Ocala, FL.

Carney is based out of Hampshire, IL, at her hunter/jumper show stable, Telluride Farm. She has been both an active participant and influential trainer in the hunter and jumper community for many years. Her contributions to the industry extend to the many clinics that she teaches every year, in addition to those that she hosts annually for U.S. Show Jumping Chef d'Equipe George H. Morris and top hunter/jumper trainer Don Stewart Jr.
