Telluride Farm's Caitie Hope Sweeps Junior Hunters at Ledges Showplace Summertime Horse Show

Roscoe, IL - June 14, 2008 - This past week Caitie Hope of Barrington, IL, amassed five first place ribbons in the Large Junior 16-17 Hunter division at the Ledges Showplace Summertime Horse Show in Roscoe, IL. Sixteen-year-old Hope, who trains with Diane Carney at Telluride Farm, piloted Caped Crusader to the championship award after winning four junior hunter classes. Caped Crusader is owned by Missy Clark and North Run Stables. Hope added another blue ribbon to her collection when she took first place in the division's handy hunter class aboard Carmachone.

"Caitie had an amazing weekend," commented Carney. She rode Caped Crusader beautifully. They had great scores, 90s and 86s. It was neat to see Caitie transition from doing the 1.30m classes at the international level in Spruce Meadows to applying that experience to the junior hunter ring." Carney added, "She's done really well with Caped Crusader all year, but she was just that much better this weekend. The horse jumped well, their rhythm was great, and it was just cool to watch."

Hope rode Carmachone in the equitation classes as well. She won the blue ribbon in the USEF Show Jumping Talent Search. After she came away with second place ribbons in both the WIHS Hunter Phase and the WIHS Jumper Phase, Hope ranked second overall for the WIHS Equitation class.

"Her equitation rounds were nice," stated Carney. "Quite a bit of bad weather had come through that morning, and it was very muddy. Caitie understands that conditions aren't always the same and that different conditions can require a different ride. The course was interesting - very scopey, with lines off unrelated distances."

"Something about Caitie was more mature and accurate this weekend," disclosed Carney. "She was really riding and more 'one with the horse' than I'd ever seen. I think Spruce Meadows boosted her confidence and improved her riding. She was very consistent and was right there with every horse. She had good answers for every question that was asked on course."

Lauren McGraw, who also trains with Carney, earned top honors aboard Diabella, owned by Kathleen Hope. McGraw received the championship for the Modified Children's Hunter division after she guided Diabella to two first place ribbons, a second, and a third.

"Diabella is a horse that is 26 years old," Carney revealed. "She has been to the World Cup Finals, she won the Amateur-Owner Jumpers at Madison Square Garden, and she has done the junior hunters at Devon. She's done short stirrup classes and is now in the Children's Hunters. She's an incredible horse."

The students and horses at Telluride Farm will compete at Ledges again this upcoming week. Hope will then attend a show in Saugerties, NY, with trainer Don Stewart Jr., who owns her small junior hunter Lyle. Later this summer, Telluride Farm will compete at the Junior Hunter Finals in Saugerties, NY.

Carney is based out of Hampshire, IL, at her hunter/jumper show stable, Telluride Farm. She has been both an active participant and influential trainer in the hunter and jumper community for many years. Her contributions to the industry extend to the many clinics that she teaches every year, in addition to those that she hosts annually for U.S. Show Jumping Chef d'Equipe George H. Morris and top hunter/jumper trainer Don Stewart Jr.
