Todd Flettrich and Amadeus Aim for 2009 World Cup Final and 2010 WEG

COATESVILLE, PA - June 29, 2008 - Todd Flettrich and Amadeus, an 11-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding owned by Cherry Knoll Farm, have returned to their summer base at Cherry Knoll Farm in Coatesville, PA, instead of making their planned trip to San Juan Capistrano, CA, for the USEF National Grand Prix Championship/Olympic Games Selection Trials due to an injury the gelding sustained that prevented the duo from competing in a final qualifier.

"I'm extremely disappointed not to be at the Trials," said Flettrich. "I congratulate everyone who made it there. I wish everyone good luck at the Selection Trials and at the Olympics. I wish I were there!"

In May 2008, Flettrich and Amadeus were ranked among the top 15 horses on the USEF National Grand Prix Dressage and Selection Trial Ranking list. Flettrich planned to compete Amadeus at the CDI-3* in Raleigh, NC, on May 30 to June 1 in order to raise their overall percentage and secure their position in the top 12 combinations qualified for California, but a week before the show, Amadeus sustained an injury. The talented gelding is on stall rest but will be back in action this Fall. Flettrich and Amadeus finished the qualifying season for the National Championship and Selection Trials in 15th place.

The injury happened in the stall when Amadeus either kicked himself rolling or attempting to knock a fly off, which caused a trauma to the left front leg and resulted in a swelling called a hematoma. "We couldn't tell if there was soft tissue damage, so we decided to take the safe way and put him on stall rest," said Flettrich. "He's young and has a big future ahead of him so it was not worth the risk to try to compete at Raleigh. By the time the hematoma cleared, Raleigh was over. As of this week, the hematoma is completely cleared and the swelling is gone."

Flettrich has not yet started riding Amadeus again and will wait until he has the approval from his veterinarian, Dr. Mitchell, who is currently at the Selection Trials.

"My plan is to be back in shape for the CDIs in the Fall," said Flettrich. "Our goal now is qualify for the World Cup Final in 2009 and the World Equestrian Games in 2010."

Flettrich will remain at his Pennsylvania base for the summer and will return to his base in Wellington, FL, in late October or early November to prepare for the Florida winter circuit CDIs.

This summer, Flettrich plans to teach clinics and travel to Europe. "Since I now have a clear schedule for the summer, I'm booked teaching clinics in Chicago, Memphis, and Jacksonville," Flettrich said. "I will also make a few horse-buying trips to Europe this summer."

Flettrich noted his appreciation of the support he received from his owner, his clients, and his friends during the 2008 Olympic Games qualifying season. "Even though our bid for the Olympics came to an unexpected halt and I was really saddened by that turn of events, it was gratifying to have had such tremendous support from Amadeus's owner, Margaret Duprey, and from so many of my clients and friends," said Flettrich. "I thank everyone for your continued support as we set our new goals and aim to represent the U.S. next year at the World Cup and the 2010 World Equestrian Games."
