Parker, CO- Gumby with Pokey. The Batmobile. A Triceratops. These are just a few of the creative costumes from years past at Halloween with Horses. With a little ingenuity and some cooperation from your fun-loving horse or pony, you could win $1,000 at the ninth annual Halloween with Horses costume contest at The Colorado Horse Park on October 18. Riders and horses of all ages are welcome for this fun event held during the famous family fall festival.

Judges will be seeking the costumed horse and rider that show the most originality and flair to award the grand prize of $1,000 this year. The contest draws a creative crowd so spectators are in for a Halloween treat.

"The horse costume contest is my favorite part of the event; it really is amazing the amount of effort put in. The contestants have great themes and they come up with the coolest costumes," says Christine DeHerrera, Media Coordinator for The Colorado Horse Park.

The top placings from each age category (12 and under, 13-21 and 21 and over) also receive cold hard cash for their efforts. First place in each category is awarded $100; second place earns $75; and third place receives $50. Entry fee is $40 for pre-entry or $50 after October 12.

Halloween with Horses fall festival is fun for the whole family, including a safe trick-or-treat barn, pony and horse rides, face-painting, storytelling, a pumpkin patch, horse entertainment, food and shopping. Children under one are free. For those over one, the cost is $9, which covers all events. Bring a can of food for SECOR and receive $1 off admission. Parking is free.
