Trish Hamilton Leads NRBC Non Pro Preliminaries

The 11th Annual National Reining Breeders Classic kicked off Monday morning, April 14, with 172 entries - the largest number of Non Pro competitors in the eventís history. The competition at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy, Texas was intense in the first section of the Non Pro Preliminaries - providing excitement, emotion and fun, with the first 85 Non Pros giving it all for their chance at Fridayís finals.

At the end of the day, Tricia Hamilton was leading the field on Whizout A Doubt (Topsail Whiz X Shining Maid). Her score of 222 set the standard for Mondayís competition.

Jose Vasquez and Sarah Johnson were tied for second with scores of 220.5 - Jose on Wound By Juice, by his stallion Smart Like Juice out of Wind Her Up Shiner and Sarah on Sonata Spot (Mark This Spot X Sonata Sorrell).

It was seemingly fashionable - and wise - to ride a Smart Starbuck in the Intermediate Non Pro on Monday leading the Intermediate results page was Steve Braun with a 219.5 on Show Biz Benz, by Smart Starbuck out of Kate Can Skate, and just behind with a score of 216 was Sarah Willeman on Gimme Major Bucks (Smart Starbuck X Majors Serendipity).

In the Limited Non Pro, the top two spots belong to Abigail Grabein on Chic Prize (Smart Chic Olena X Seniorita Enterprise) with a 215.5 and to Chris Potter on Gunshine (Mifillena X Gunners Doll Face) with a 214.5. And in the Prime Time Division, Michael Garnet tops the field with a score of 217 on No Ordinary Kid (The Great Kid X Solanos Skip Brick) with Keith Crawford on Hollywood Yankee (Rowdy Yankee X Dunits Papoose) just a point behind.

The top 25 Non Pros will advance to Fridayís Finals and the top 20 in Intermediate Non Pro, Limited Non Pro and Prime Time Non Pro will also earn a spot in their respective finals after the second section of the Non Pro Preliminaries takes place on Tuesday.

The National Reining Breeders Classic is the most successful stallion incentive program in reining history. In just 11 years, the NRBC has grown to include almost 300 subscribed stallions and over 20,000 enrolled foals.
