U.S. Draws Last for Rotterdam Samsung Super League

Rotterdam, Netherlands June 22, 2006 The United States all-woman jumping team will go last in the eight-nation Samsung Super League Friday.

At the draw Thursday, the home side, The Netherlands, were chosen to go first, France second, Ireland third, Great Britain fourth, Switzerland sixth and Germany seventh.

The U.S. squad of four riders in the two-round competition are Margie Engle on Quervo Gold, Candice King on Tarco, Molly Ashe on Neuville and Laura Kraut on Miss Independent. All four riders and the Chef d' Equipe, George Morris, call Wellington, Fla. home.

At the official draw for the order of go, Morris joked that yet another all-female American side is the reason his hair "is getting shorter and shorter and whiter as well."

With four of the eight super league competitions concluded, the United States is in second place behind Germany.

A new $310,000 all-weather sand and felt outdoor ring has met with overwhelming approval from riders and coaches. It is unusual in that most top outdoor courses are grass.

In jumping competition Thursday, Margie Engle rode Hidden Creek's Perin for the first time since a bad spill at Aachen five weeks ago. The pair knocked down a single rail in the two-round 1.5-meter class.
