U.S. Polocrosse Team to Compete in World Cup
Equestrian News Release
The U.S. World Cup Polocrosse team is traveling to Australia to vie for the championship title at the second Polocrosse World Cup from April 23-29, 2007 in Queensland, Australia. Eight nations will take part in the event: Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, United Kingdom, the USA, and Zimbabwe. All have a chance to win the world championship title. There will be two draws, using an even pool of 200 top Australian horses. The Australian Stock Horse is a favored breed in Australia and is an athletic choice for the sport of polocrosse.
The Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia will conduct the opening ceremonies on April 23, 2007. This historic event will be held at Australia’s premier polocrosse facility at Morgan Park in Warwick on Queensland’s Southern Downs. 40,000 spectators are expected, doubling the spectator count from the first Polocrosse World Cup event in 2003.
The American Polocrosse Association (APA) selected five women and five men, including the team alternates from its Player Development Program in 2006 to begin training, team skill work and coaching sessions. The team has left the U.S. for Morgan Park in Queensland, Australia to prepare for the event. In 2003, the U.S. team placed 5th among the eight nations.
