Show Jumping Star Candice King Gives Back to Community

Wellington, FL – January 22, 2007 – Vinceremos Therapeutic Riding Center (VTRC) is uniting the stars of its program with the stars of grand prix jumping at the “Stars Unite” annual benefit and dinner dance – one of those stars being show jumper and benefit co-chair Candice King.

King, known for her success internationally and at home, has been a major player on the U.S. show jumping front since 1989. In addition to riding on 13 Nations’ Cup teams, she won the $50,000 Budweiser Grand Prix of Indianapolis in 2000 with John E.M. and was also the runner-up in the $150,000 Grand Prix at the CSI-W Hampton Classic Horse Show in Bridgehampton, NY. The next year, she became the first American since 1968 to win the Queen Elizabeth II Cup at the Royal International Horse Show in England. More recently, she represented the U.S. at the 2005 World Cup Finals in Las Vegas on Coco Cabana and recorded strong finishes throughout the year with Tarco, owned by JustWorld International supporters Joan and Ernie Kalman, and Camillo V.

As a fixture in the show ring, King has the ability to bring attention and awareness to VTRC and its cause, in addition to its new capital campaign, “Cover Our Kids.” Last year, King attended the benefit auction and was recently asked to be a co-chair.

“We went to the auction last year, and it was definitely something. It touched me to be able to help these children who cope with disabilities and to see how riding helps them,” King explained. “I have to say, being involved now, they’ve done an excellent job. It’s definitely something that is needed to help our community. It’s not just the individuals who are affected, it’s a community effort. It’s a very good organization and I’m proud to be involved with all of them.”

Vinceremos Therapeutic Riding Center, based in Loxahatchee Groves, FL, is a nonprofit organization that provides recreational and therapeutic riding instruction to people of all ages with varying developmental, physical and psychological disabilities in an energetic and nurturing setting. The organization has assisted more than 1000 adults and children to gain a sense of accomplishment, greater independence and a higher quality of life.

King noted that through her involvement, she hopes to create more awareness of the cause in the show jumping world. “I think there are a lot of us that can give back to the community. There is a lot done for us, and I feel like we need to give more. It’s a great purpose to give to. It involves other human beings that need help. We’re able to do most of the things we want, and it’s good to give back.”

VTRC recently kicked off its largest fundraiser yet, the “Cover Our Kids” capital campaign, which is a three-phase initiative to build a covered riding arena, a new stable with office space to better serve clients, and a parking area. The organization’s annual fundraiser, the “Stars Unite” Benefit and Dinner Dance is on February 23, 2007, at the International Polo Club in Wellington, FL. The chairs of the benefit are Tuny Page, Cetty Weiss and King.
