Walter Farley
Equestrian News Release
He could spin a yarn with the best of them, but behind author Walter Farley was a real horseman.
His horse stories have thrilled generations of youngsters and helped to instill in them a passion for reading that schoolbooks can't. But few people know that the late Walter Farley left us nonfiction books on his favorite subject, too. Carol Alm, president of the Black Stallion Literacy Project:
"He also wrote a couple of other books on horse keeping and horse training and horse care. His philosophy, interestingly enough, way back then parallels the philosophies today of John Lyons and Pat Parelli and Ray Hunt."
But Walter Farley is best remembered for his twenty-five books starring The Black Stallion. Still popular after sixty years, these timeless stories are today the backbone of The Black Stallion Literacy Project, a privately funded effort to promote reading among grade school children.
