WARRENTON, VA-- The International Gold Cup announced today that their website is ready for ticket orders for the upcoming 68th annual running of the International Gold Cup. “We’re seeing record sales this year,” reports Diane Jones executive director of the Virginia Gold Cup Association. The event is Washington’s premiere outdoor activity and is extremely popular in the fall because the setting is so spectacular. This year the International Gold Cup takes place on Saturday, October 15 at Great Meadow in The Plains, Virginia. Gates open at 10 a.m. for pre-race entertainment with the first race scheduled for 1 p.m.
A rich history of international involvement characterizes the Gold Cup, the highlight of the fall steeplechase season. The International Gold Cup, one of the most prestigious timber races in the country, is conducted for benefit of local charities. This exciting competition presents eight races over timber and brush attracting the finest jump-race contenders in the United Sates with purses totaling over $100,000. Pre-race festivities, including pony races and a parade of carriages, add to the genteel character and family enjoyment of an autumn day in Virginia horse country.
General admission car passes are $50 in advance, $60 week of race. A car pass admits one vehicle and six occupants. Children 12 years of age and under are admitted free with an adult. To get there from Washington, DC take I-66 west to Exit 31 (Route 245 south), and follow signs to Great Meadow, only 50 minutes from Washington, DC.
