WELLINGTON, Fla. Dec. 19--The 2008 Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) revised Prize List for 12 weeks of competition at the Palm Beach International Equestran Center was posted to the Internet website, http://www.equestriansport.com Saturday.
Equestrian Sport Productions, LLC (ESP), the management company of the WEF that begins on Jan. 16, posted the Prize List to http://www.equestriansport.com/registration.html and http://www.equestriansport.com/publications.html.
The Prize List, subject to approval by the U.S. Equestrian Federation, is in both text and PDF formats so it can be viewed on computer screens and printed out. Additions and changes to the Wellington competitions will be posted as details are confirmed.
Highlights of the WEF schedule include three World Cup jumping qualifiers, a Nations Cup and five Olympic jumping selection trials.
A Top Ten North America versus Europe Challenge and high performance six-bar and speed derby classes are being introduced to add excitement and glamor and attract spectators
ESP will complete its takeover of the Wellington show grounds now named the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center (PBIEC) and management of the USEF licenses for the horse shows at the end of this week.
Within hours of the end of the National Horse Show on Sunday, work began to install an all-weather surface in place of grass in the Internationale Arena and upgrade several other all-weather rings in time for the opening of WEF,
The Show Grounds and the South Grounds that make up PBIEC encompass 15 rings allowing for expanded classes and divisions and better scheduling of rings to allow for shorter show days. The Stadium is reserved for high performance and special events.
In addition to footing, other significant improvements include newly designed traffic patterns to improve the flow and safety of horses, pedestrians and golf carts, improved spectator seating, shaded trainer areas and extensive landscaping.
An all new Showgrounds Live software program is also being introduced to allow a wide range of electronic functions from online registration, up-to-the-second activities in all competition rings all day, every day to internet-based check out for open bills, all of which should dramatically reduce lines at the show office.
