Tobasco and Thornton Capture Tricolor in Small Junior 15 and Under Hunters

Wellington, FL – February 5, 2007 – When the second week of the 2007 Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) came to a close, Alexandra Thornton and Tobasco added another tricolor to their ribbon collection after they received top honors in the Small Junior 15 and Under Hunter division. Thornton, who trains with the well-known and highly respected Susie Humes, resides in Bedminster, NJ, and travels to Florida during WEF to compete in the Junior Hunters and Children’s Jumpers with her horses, which are owned by Dunwalke LLC.

This past week’s championship marked Thornton’s first tricolor in the Junior Hunters at the Winter Equestrian Festival. Last year, Thornton was named the overall circuit champion with Tobasco after she completed a rare clean sweep in the Children’s Hunter division, winning the championship every week. The 13-year-old only moved up to the Junior Hunters at the end of last summer. Since the transition, she has amassed numerous tricolors at such prestigious shows as Capital Challenge Horse Show, The Hampton Classic, and the 123rd National Horse Show and Family Festival.

“I could not be more pleased with the way Alexandra rode this week and how well she’s started off the new season,” Humes said after the championship presentation. “She was also second and fifth in the Children’s Jumper Classic.” She added, “She had several weekends of fabulous lessons in January with George [Morris], and the results are very evident in both Alexandra’s confidence and her smoothness.”

In addition to her success with Tobasco and her jumpers, Tullifinny and Saint Exupery, Thornton also piloted High Noon and For The Music in the Large Junior Hunters and received high placings.

“We are very fortunate to have Charlie Weaver, possibly the greatest hunter rider of all time, riding and helping to prepare the hunters,” stated Humes. “Charlie is such a genius and really understands each horse as an individual. His insights are invaluable.”

Thornton will continue to show her horses throughout the Winter Equestrian Festival.
