Consistency is Key for Champions Alexandra Thornton and Tobasco

Wellington, FL – March 14, 2007 – Thirteen-year-old Alexandra Thornton added yet another championship ribbon to the tack room curtains at Dunwalke this past week at the CN Wellington Open CSIO 5*, which was the seventh week of competition at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, FL. Thornton, who resides in Bedminster, NJ, has won the division championship for the Small Junior 15 and Under Hunters almost every week so far this season, and she has also captured tricolors with her large junior hunters.

Thornton trains with Susie Humes, who is one of the most prominent judges and trainers in the equestrian industry. This past week, the young rider and Tobasco came away with two blue ribbons, as well as second, third, fourth, and fifth places. She also earned high placings with High Noon and For The Music in the Large Junior 15 and Under Hunters.

“We’ve had a great season,” reported Humes. “Alexandra and Tobasco have been wonderfully consistent in the show ring, and she has also really come together with her other horses. She is such a talented young rider, and it’s exciting to work with someone so bright and dedicated to the sport. Since I started working with Alexandra, she has transitioned from ponies to horses and made the move from Children’s Hunters to Junior Hunters. Her constant progress and ability to rise to the occasion continues to impress me.”

Whistlejacket, another horse owned by Dunwalke LLC, took home the championship in the Baby Green Hunters with professional Charlie Weaver in the irons. In addition to Dunwalke’s hunter ring success, Thornton competed with her new horse, Naomi, in the Modified Children’s Jumpers.

“Naomi is a beautiful bay mare, and she is a fabulous jumper,” said Humes. “I think she’s a great match for Alexandra, and I know they will be a wonderful team.”

The Dunwalke team will compete again next week at the CN Worldwide Wellington Finale CSI 5*.
