West Coast Active Riders Prix de Nations Teams Prepare for Spruce Meadows
Equestrian News Release
San Diego, CA- June 29- On July 5, sixteen members of the West Coast Active Riders (WCAR) organization will compete in the Spruce Meadows Paramount Resources Prix de Nations, which is the featured event of the North American competition. The riders will compete against teams from North America and Europe.
The WCAR will be represented at the prestigious event in four different teams. The 1.10m team consists of Richard Neal, Pam Buie, Troy Christiansen, and Aimee Primm. The 1.20m team will be represented by Gretchen Privett, Richard Neal, Rachel Kummer, and Kathryn Burdett. The 1.30m team will have Julie Hancock, Crystal Hickey, Erica Buie, and Stephanie Saperstein. Last, but not least, the 1.40m team riders are Tammy Chipko, Tiffany Hickey, Kelly Connor, and Hannah Selleck.
The riders will be given beautiful Ariat hunt coats to wear in the competition, as well as team saddle pads and coolers for the horses. The riders are asked to make sure they are nominated for the Prix de Nations during the week of the North American competition and to report to WCAR executive director, Gabriella Salick, at (917) 743-5527 if there are any problems or changes.
Once the riders arrive at the beautiful Spruce Meadows facility, there will be a team meeting on Monday, July 4, at 6 p.m. at Earl’s (403) 278-7860. Riders will receive team patches and gift bags, meet with teammates, meet the chefs d’equipe, and heighten their team spirit. Salick explained, “It’s all about you! You’ve come a long way to get here, so enjoy this great opportunity- the first of many- to represent your country in international competition. We are very proud.”
By joining the WCAR Prix de Nations team, riders are given a travel stipend. Since WCAR is a 501 c3 non-profit organization, riders are also given the opportunity to participate in community service projects, which include writing an article about their Prix de Nations experience and contributing to various other projects to help the team.
WCAR would like to thank Paramount Resources for their sponsorship of the Prix de Nations class at Spruce Meadows, as well as the Southern Family and Linda Heathcott, who make the event possible. “We truly appreciate all of their kindness and generosity,” Salick stated.
In addition to the Prix de Nations riders, WCAR would like to congratulate and support the professional riders that are competing at Spruce Meadows, including Joie Gatlin, Richard Spooner, Will and Nicole Simpson, Francie and Dick Carvin, Rich Fellers, and Guilhermo Obligado. Congratulations also go out to American Norman Dello Joio, who won the CN Grand Prix at the Spruce Meadows National on June 11 on his famous mount, Glasgow.
