Rousing New Competition Highlights Western States Horse Expo

"This promises to be our most exciting year ever," smiles Miki Cohen, founder of the Western States Horse Expo. "We're thrilled to have the 'Extreme Cowboy' competition, as you've seen on RFD-TV, be a part of our event. We've planned a course for the competitors that will challenge the best of them!"

From its grass roots beginning in 1999, the Expo is now the largest in the nation and draws people from around the world. The 8th annual Western States Horse Expo will be held June 9-11 in Sacramento, California, and promises to continue to be considered the "gold standard of equine expos by exhibitors and horsemen alike."

"We've also expanded our physical size," says Cohen. "The amount of air-conditioned vendor space has grown; the indoor ring is larger; we've added even more space for trucks, trailers and RVs; and with the added competitions, we've literally pushed out the boundaries of the Expo by some 90 acres."

Knowing that the person who comes through the gate is the #1 priority, the Expo has added "creature comforts" this year, such as free shuttle services throughout the Expo and out to the parking area, as well as a "park-your-packages" service so that people can drop off their purchases without going back to the car - and then shop some more!

All the favorites will return this year, including the Magnificent 7 competition, two-day horse sale, equine art show, kids pavilion with hands-on activities, highly acclaimed clinicians, educational programs, and musical headliners. Over 500 horses are proudly shown at this event, with some 40 breeds on display. Lively discussions about the need for trails in this country are addressed at the Trail Symposium. Have you saved your shopping list for this once-a-year shopping extravaganza? You won't be sorry! This year there will be 550 exhibitors at the Mane Market Mall. Need a trailer? The Horse Expo hosts the largest display in the world! Planning a barn? Choose from the models on the five+ acres of barns and corrals.

The Saturday Evening Showcase is a lively and entertaining presentation

for all family members, and Friday evening's Magnificent 7 finals is fun for all - cheer for your favorite cowboy as he performs magic with his horse and cows!

"We know what horse owners want," says Cohen. "And wešre constantly aiming to provide the very best, from education to entertainment to shopping. We're serious about learning about horses, about providing the best for them, and we're also pretty serious about having fun with them!"
