$15,000 WIHS Hunter Derby Classic Victory Goes to Scott Stewart and World Time at 2008 Washington International Horse Show

Washington, D.C. - October 25, 2008 - It was another exciting day downtown at the Washington International Horse Show, hosted at Verizon Center. In the $15,000 WIHS Hunter Classic, Scott Stewart piloted World Time to the win. The class was by invitation only; extended to those horse and riders who won championship honors in this week's hunter divisions.

Today's Hunter Classic course included tight rollbacks, as well as an intricate snake fence. During his first round, Stewart received a score of 90.333 with World Time, which put him in the lead going into the second round. Jessica Springsteen and Tiziano returned to the second round in the fourth place position. Their second round was impeccable, taking a very tight inside option after a two-stride. The performance would earn them a score of 95.333 and total of 176.333, as well as resounding cheers from the audience. Stewart would not be outdone though, and returned to the ring to produce another terrific round. He received a score of 91.666, resulting in total of 181.999 and today's trophy.

World Time and Stewart qualified for the $15,000 WIHS Hunter Derby Classic by winning the championship in the First Year Green Working Hunters. Although World Time is a first year horse, Stewart was confident that he would handle the derby format well. "World Time is a little bit of a small horse and a little handier. He isn't fazed by anything," Stewart explained. "His best class is always his first class. He is not spooky at all, so I was confident that he could do it. He hasn't done that much, but he is easy. He is very laid back and takes everything in stride."

After Springsteen's impressive second course, Stewart knew he would have to put in a top round to win. "I did not see her go, but she did tell me how she rode the course. I was nine points ahead of her so I wanted to go in and be handy, but not lose it," he noted. "During the second round, I was going to try and take the inside route, but he spent so much time in the air and I wanted to give him a nice turn, so I opted to go around. Jessica's horse took the inside turn and it looked nice, but her horse is more experienced."

Springsteen and Tiziano's incredible second round earned them the reserve honors in the Hunter Classic. Katie Dinan and Angelo also produced two solid efforts, for a total score of 167.333 and the third place ribbon.

Tomorrow is the last day of competition at the 2008 WIHS. Highlights for the day include the concluding classes for the pony hunters, championship presentations, Grand Champion Pony Hunter award, Best Child Rider on a Pony award, and Local Hunter finals with award presentation. Scheduled to be held at 1:45 p.m. will be the Autism Speaks Day of Champions Pageant featuring Chester Weber Four in Hand driving demonstration.
