PhelpsSports.com Team Ready to Cover 2006 FEI World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany
Wellington, FL – March 20, 2006 – The team at PhelpsSports.com recently organized their plan to cover the 2006 FEI World Equestrian Games (WEG) in Aachen, Germany. WEG is the most anticipated equestrian event of the year, and PhelpsSports will be there to cover every minute of the exciting competition, from the Opening Ceremonies to the “hanky-wave” at the Closing Ceremonies.
Six members of Phelps Sports will cover the writing and photography of all seven disciplines offered at WEG. From their home base in Wellington, FL, Phelps Sports will be orchestrated by PMG President Mason Phelps and manned by show jumping aficionados Kenneth Kraus and Jenny Ross, dressage photographer Susan Stickle, writers Kendra Cecieta and YA Teitelbaum, webmaster Jack Cormier, and office manager Kira Johnson.
The Opening Ceremonies and Dressage, which is the first event of WEG, will be covered by Mary Hilton. Hilton has more than 25 years experience as a media specialist. Specializing in Dressage and Show Jumping, her feature stories, columns, and profiles appear regularly in national and international equestrian publications. Hilton will cover the dressage competition from August 20 to August 26.
The photographer for Dressage is Ken Braddick, who is the publisher and editor of Horse Sport USA magazine. Braddick was a foreign correspondent for United Press International for more than 10 years based in the Asia-Pacific region. He was international editor of the global news agency based in New York before leaving in 1982 to found the world’s first digital photo satellite network that served The New York Times, News Corp., Knight-Ridder, Tribune Company and Newhouse News Service among others. Braddick will also contribute his photography skills for the Show Jumping competition on August 29 through September 3.
Braddick’s wife, professional Dressage competitor and trainer Ilse Schwarz, will also be on hand to help the PhelpsSports team. Schwarz is also the contributing editor to Horse Sports USA magazine. She will cover the writing for the Driving discipline on August 30 to September 2 and will help photograph Driving, Vaulting, and Reining.
The husband and wife team of Peter and Jean Llewellyn will tackle the Three-Day Eventing discipline, which starts on August 24 and ends on August 27. Photographer Peter Llewellyn’s photo agency, HorseSource, has grown to become one of the largest collections of equestrian images in the world. He has been a contributor to a prestigious list of publications worldwide, and also the official photographer for many major tournaments, including Badminton Horse Trials, Hickstead Derby, Pavarotti International, WEG 1998, the Pulsar Crown Series, and Spruce Meadows.
Jean Llewellyn’s career as an equestrian journalist has spanned nearly 20 years, with her work appearing in over 40 publications worldwide. She has been managing editor of three equestrian magazines and also on the editorial board of Breeding News for Sport Horses since its launch in 1997. For three years during the 90s, Jean worked as global media coordinator for the Samsung Nations’ Cup series. In 2000, her international expertise was recognized by the organizing committee of the Sydney Olympic Games, and she assisted with the production of their equestrian program.
In addition to Eventing, Jean Llewellyn will report on the Endurance competition on August 21 and the Reining competition on September 1 and 3. Peter Llewellyn will also photograph the Endurance, Reining, and Show Jumping competition.
Rounding out the team is Phelps Media Group, Inc. International (PMG) writer Jennifer Wood. Wood has covered major horse shows, such as the Winter Equestrian Festival, the 2005 FEI World Cup Jumping Final, and the 2005 Spruce Meadows Masters, for PMG. She will report on the Show Jumping competition (August 29-September 3), as well as Vaulting on August 24 to 27.
The closing ceremonies coverage on September 3 will be written by Ilse Schwarz and Ken Braddick. Braddick, as well as Peter Llewellyn, will be on hand to photograph the final moments of the 2006 FEI World Equestrian Games.
