Still Time to Buy One of the Best Horse Books Published in 2006
FAIR HILL, Md. -- ST Publishing's book "The Best of The Saratoga Special" is still available and would make a great addition to any equine library, especially one with a connection to the Thoroughbred town of Saratoga Springs, N.Y. (site of this year's American Horse Publications seminar/conference).
The 291-page, hard-cover, full-color book showcases the writing of ST staffers Joe and Sean Clancy and others, plus the photography of Tod Marks, Barbara Livingston and Dave Harmon. The book chronicles five years in the life of a daily newspaper during the Thoroughbred racing season at Saratoga through articles and photos that cover the highlights of the 2001-05 seasons. Horses such as Point Given, Ashado, Seabiscuit, City Zip, Funny Cide, Empire Maker, Birdstone, Azeri, Afleet Alex and others grace the pages along with human personalities Allen Jerkens, John Velazquez, Jerry Bailey, Todd Pletcher, Pat Day, Gary Stevens, Shug McGaughey, John Nerud and more.
"The Best of The Saratoga Special" received the first-place plaque in the American Horse Publications Annual Awards Contest as the best equine-related book (text) published in 2006, with judges commenting on the book's design, layout, "strong reporting style and feel for the horses." In addition, the book was a finalist in the Castleton/Lyons Thoroughbred Times book contest.
Retailing for $25, the book is available to the public at http://www.st-publishing.com/store or by calling 1-800-777-RACE.
