SBS Farms Wins Four Hunter Tricolor Ribbons at Kentucky Spring Classic Horse Show
Buffalo, NY - May 18, 2009 - SBS Farms had fabulous results at two horse shows this past week. They competed at the Kentucky Spring Classic Horse Show in Lexington, KY, as well as the Batavia Showtime I Horse Show in Batavia, NY. They took home a total of 11 tricolor ribbons at the two shows. SBS Farms is based at the Buffalo Therapeutic Riding Center in Buffalo, NY.
In Kentucky, SBS Farms trainer and rider Jennifer Alfano was the big winner. She rode Sting, owned by Helen Lenahan, to the Regular Conformation Hunter championship. They won three over fences classes, were second in the handy hunter class, and second in the under saddle.
Alfano swept the Regular Working Hunter division. The champion was Jersey Boy, owned by SBS Farms, who won two firsts and two seconds over fences and was second under saddle. Rock Star, owned by Bright Star 158 LLC, was the reserve champion with two firsts, a second, and a fifth over fences, as well as a third in the under saddle class.
Another Bright Star owned entry, Kid Rock, was the First Year Green Hunter reserve champion. They placed second, third, third, and fourth over fences. Alfano also placed well in the same division with Extraordinary, owned by Helen Lenahan.
Alfano was ready to get back into the show ring after a long break. The Regular division horses had not shown since the hunter derby at the Winter Equestrian Festival, and the First Year Horses had a break since the first week of the Tampa Equestrian Festival.
"It felt good to show again," Alfano said. "I was definitely ready. All of the horses were really good. They went right into the ring and started winning. I like giving them a break after Florida, and then they're fresh and ready for Devon. It gets everything smoothed out, and hopefully they'll be ready."
Alfano will show all five horses at the Devon Horse Show. "I love showing at Devon. It's a lot of fun. It'll be interesting to see what the young ones do," she noted. "Taking First Year horses there is always exciting. The four foot horses have been there, and I think I can count on them."
Blue Ridge Sunset, owned by Harper Hills LLC and Sara Rimmler, was ridden by Meredith Darst over two weeks of competition in Kentucky. The first week, they were reserve champions. They placed first, second, third, and third over fences and won the under saddle class. In the second week, they had more solid placings with two seconds, a third, and a fifth.
At the Batavia Showtime Horse Show, Meredith Lipke Bartolone of Buffalo, NY, was a big winner. She swept the Amateur-Owner Hunter division, winning the championship with Once and Again and the reserve championship on The Specialist.
Sara Rimmler was also very successful. She was the Equitation 11 & Under champion and the Pre-Children's Hunter division reserve champion on Bravado.
Ashley Glica piloted Point Taken to the championship in the Children's 14 & Under Hunter division, while Alicia Heberle and Jo Molone were the Small Junior Hunter reserve champions.
In the Children's Jumpers, the championship went to Kathleen Kozlowski on Mick O' Angelo. Caroline Schutte rode in the Syracuse PHA 14 & Under Medal and took home the blue ribbon.
All of the horses and riders at the Batavia Showtime Horse Show were trained by SBS Farms assistant trainer Shane Powell, who made his debut at the show assisted by head trainer Susie Schoellkopf and Jennifer Alfano.
SBS Farms will compete next at the Devon Horse Show on May 21-30, 2009. For more information on SBS Farms, please visit http://www.thebtrc.org.
