Dominique Eerdekens has been honoured by the Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein e.V. (ALRV) with the Badge of Honour of the World Equestrian Festival, CHIO Aachen on Tuesday. During the CHIO Aachen 2008, the Belgian had stopped the driverless horse team of the Australian driver Boyd Exell in the Marathon course after Exell and his grooms had fallen off the carriage in an obstacle. “Dominique Eerdekens is truly a hero for us”, said ALRV-President Klaus Pavel in front of media representatives from Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. “Even if he himself considers his courageous deed, which he accomplished at the risk of jeopardizing his own health, as being the most natural thing in the world. ALRV hands over a 15,000 Euro-cheque in “Night of the Stars”
The visitors of this year’s World Equestrian Festival, CHIO Aachen have collected 15,000 Euros for the benefit of therapeutic riding and the sports for the disabled. In the course of the “Night of the Stars 2008” – a charity event of the paralympic sport in the Mercedes-World in Berlin – Klaus Pavel, President of the Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein (ALRV), handed over the cheque to Gerda Pleitgen, who is Chairwoman of the Sports Association for the Disabled. Pleitgen was enthused about the “great commitment of the CHIO Aachen and the horse sport fans”. Also dressage riders Bettina Eistel and Angelika Trabert were glad about the big donation.
